SBRT from Specialized Care to Standard Practice: The Opportunities in the Age of a Pandemic
This Winter School will focus on advancements in Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). Since its wide clinical adoption in the last decade, the role and utility of SBRT have been expanding through continual technical and process improvements: from the development of dedicated delivery platforms to advancements in immobilization, setup verification, motion management, gating, and intra-fraction imaging. With the advent of adaptive RT and MR-guidance, the field is witnessing rapid changes leading to both the wider use of SBRT in previously untreatable sites and an associated greater complexity for all the members of the radiotherapy team.
The goal of the COMP Winter School 2021 is to promote best clinical practice across Canada, to raise the bar on quality and safety of SBRT treatments, and facilitate equitable access to SBRT treatments for patients within Canada and beyond. The Winter School will expose the participants to best practices and workflows in SBRT, explore how changing technologies can affect team structure and workflows, and to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by such new technologies. The Winter School will also address challenges in dose reporting, integrating patient reported outcomes with adaptive radiotherapy, and learning from patients’ experiences. The format will be a mix of lectures, discussions, debates and demos by experts and vendors. While the nature of the subject can be content heavy, more time will be focused on group discussions, and learning from different perspectives.
